Restaurant Review: Posillipo – Faversham, KentFeatured

Italian food is comforting to the soul. The combination of rich sauces and light broths with beautifully tender seafood, delectable meat and of course pasta, fills me with joy. But it is hard to find an Italian restaurant that combines these delicacies both cooked and presented well, alongside a friendly atmosphere and restaurant that is decorated to appease your senses but still feel relaxed.  And trust me, I have been to quite a few!

Deep in the heart of Faversham in Kent, a gentile and historic town, resides Posillipo. A visually stunning restaurant with views of the creek.  The outside of the building sets the tone for the entire restaurant and the building is in keeping with the area which is something I always find appealing. Even in early Spring, where the leaves on the treas still haven’t quite shown their beauty yet and the sky is grey, the … Read the rest >>>

Restaurant Review: Balans Soho Society – London

I’m always looking for new places to eat in London and having seen this restaurant numerous times, I had never actually ventured in, until now.

Balans Soho Society, rather cleverly tagged the ‘haven for the convivial’ has outlets all over London. I was lucky enough to dine at the Old Compton Street venue last weekend and what a delight it was.

As soon as you walk in, you hit an atmosphere of upbeat, theatrical happiness. The decoration certainly gives this restaurant a late night ‘speak easy’ feel mixed with an actors den after a late night show.

Our table was pre-booked and we were greeted politely and efficiently by the staff. As we walked past the bar we could see the mixologist busy preparing cocktails and he never once stopped: a lot of cocktails were consumed that day it seems!

Restaurant Review: Bibimbap Soho – London

My youngest daughter is currently learning to speak, write and read Korean, is mildly obsessed by KPop and loves all things from Korea. At 16 she is of the age where she is going out by herself and, just like me, she loves to eat at new and exciting restaurants.

A few months ago she came home after a trip to London with her big brother and raved about a little Korean restaurant she had found in Soho. She has since been back countless times and last week she insisted I join her so I could also sample the authentic Korean goodies on offer.

Bibimbap Soho can be found at the top of Greek Street in Soho, about a 5 minute walk from Covent Garden. It’s an unassuming entrance and quite easy to miss but keep your wits about you and you’ll spot it.

Natural & Organic Products Europe Show 2017 at Excel London

Each year I am honoured to be asked to attend the Natural & Organic Products Europe Show as member of the press. When I first started attending the show, it was held in Olympia and I always felt it was a little cramped but the past few years, since the show has been moved to Excel London, it is by far my favourite show to attend. Last week was show day and my press pass and I were ready to rock and roll.

Natural & Organic Products Europe Show is Europe’s biggest trade show for natural products – making it the ‘must attend’ event for buyers of everything from natural healthcare products, natural and organic foods, through to natural personal care and eco-household products.  This year over 10,500 people attended the show with over 700 exhibitors. But it isn’t just stalls. There are demonstrations, speakers, awards and much more.

Restaurant Review: Friendly Phil’s Diner at The Venue, Hempstead Valley, Kent.

There is something about the atmosphere of a good American diner. Maybe it’s the combination of the decor, music and food; it’s great when a diner gets it right, but sadly many don’t. However, I am extremely pleased to report that we have found a little gem of an American diner and even better, it’s just a few miles away from where we live.

Friendly Phil’s Diner is based at the Venue complex which is part of Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre near Gillingham, Kent. It’s relatively new and has taken up residence in place of what was, Dean’s Diner. Although with Friendly Phil in town, no one really misses Dean anymore.

We were greeted at the door by a cheerful waitress and taken to our table. The restaurant is perfectly lit for a diner: not too bright and with low level lamps to give that night time speak-easy kind of … Read the rest >>>

Restaurant Review: The Peridot Restaurant at The Bentley Hotel in Kensington London

Recently I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to spend a lovely evening at The Peridot Restaurant based in The Bentley Hotel in Kensington, London.  Myself and friends, travelled up to London by train to Victoria Station, then jumped in a black cab and whisked off to what seemed a very private and beautiful part of Kensington.

We were greeted on arrival by the doorman and escorted through the beautifully decorated lobby by the concierge.

Once we were through the lobby we were taken to The Peridot Restaurant where we were introduced to the restaurant manager, Lealynn, who immediately made us feel very welcome.

We were immediately stunned at just how charming the restaurant was and could see why it has been aptly named ‘The Peridot’ due to the gorgeous green chairs.  The chairs seemed to be the original chairs from years gone by, beautifully preserved and the restaurant had … Read the rest >>>

JADU Tea Review – Tantalising Tea’s from London

I love tea. No sorry, you don’t quite get it… I LOVE tea. I am also an avid collector of teas and am proud to own teas from all over the world. So you can imagine my delight when JADU Tea (London) contacted me and asked if I would like to sample their teas.  I hastily said yes and to my delight a box of the most gorgeous looking and smelling teas arrived soon after.

IMG_1227

As I opened the box, the smell of fragrant tea was a pleasing discovery that made me smile instantly. The packaging was excellent and a handwritten note and even a free notepad was a lovely surprise.

I received three teas. English Breakfast, Mademoiselle Grey and China Green.

The first tea I tried was the English Breakfast. The box it arrived in was so beautiful! A royal blue suede box with gold trimmings. The tea was … Read the rest >>>

Lindt Chocolate Review – Oh So Chocolatey!

When you receive an email from Lindt asking if you would like to work with them and try some of their chocolate, would you, like me, get so excited you sent back a big fat YES but forgot to add your address?  That’s just how excited I was when my email came in a couple of weeks ago 😉

I love chocolate. But it has to be good chocolate. Do you know what I mean? The chocolate that picks you up, gives you a hug, tells you everything is going be OK and then makes your tummy happy? Yes? Oh good, you understand!

Well then my lovelies, let me take you on a Lindt journey…

Firstly, You may notice that this is part 1 of a review. I was going to do everything in one post, a chocolate review and then cooking a recipe using the chocolate but ummm… ok I … Read the rest >>>

Restaurant Review: The Plough Inn at Lewson Street near Faversham Kent.

I do love a pub lunch. Not just any old pub lunch, but lunch in an old pub in the middle of nowhere. Yesterday this is exactly what I had. I have lived in Kent for 38 years and didn’t even know this place existed, it is very hidden away but oh my goodness, what a gem! Welcome to The Plough Inn at Lewson Street.

After discovering this little beauty of a pub on TripAdvisor and having an excuse to celebrate as my daughter passed her PA diploma with a staggering 94% (yes I am a proud mum!), we decided we had to go and see for ourselves what the reviews on TripAdvisor were raving about. We were not disappointed.

As we entered we saw a plethora of hops covering the beams of this charming old inn. A sunny smile from the Landlady greeted us and she asked us if … Read the rest >>>
